By removing a wall between a galley kitchen and a living room, the owners of this house created an open-plan kitchen and play room that leads through to a dining area. Bar stools painted in lime green break up the white walls and contemporary units with a hit of bold colour.

Sleek kitchen units
The white units have a high-gloss finish that is easy to wipe clean. A blue and green tiled splashback above the hob and a run of aubergine wall units give the modern room a more welcoming feel.

Laid-back kitchen dining area
Bespoke banquette seating gets more people around the table and has hidden storage underneath. The dark feature wall defines the dining area from the white kitchen, and is the perfect backdrop to show off the bright turquoise shelves and dining chairs.

Children’s play area
The owners had floor-to-ceiling storage built into an alcove at the play room end of the kitchen space. The cupboard doors are painted in blackboard paint, providing a surface for the kids to get creative.

Before the kitchen makeover
Prior to the makeover, the kitchen had a galley layout and was a very dark space with dated units.
