The large L-shaped sofa in the living room is perfect for Melanie and all her family to relax on. It was originally white but Melanie bought grey covers which are easier to keep clean. She picked out patterned fabric for the blind to give the room a touch of character without being overpowering.

Living room
To add warmth to this end of the living room, Melanie painted one wall a warm shade of grey and added a armchair to make a cosy reading corner.

Kitchen
Melanie went for a modern-style kitchen after being inspired by the sleek pendant light, which now hangs over her table in the dining area. She chose white-gloss units and dark wood-effect worktops for a smooth contemporary feel.

Dining area
The blue pendant light was the starting point for Melanie's kitchen scheme. With its traditional farmhouse-style table and chairs, the dining area is in contrast to the main kitchen and gives the space real character.

Bedroom

Bedroom
The bedroom is Melanie's sanctuary where she continued her use of calm, restful colours, choosing an eye-catching canvas of St Ives in Cornwall, which is one of her favourite places.

Bathroom
When Melanie started work on the bathroom she discovered that the walls were pretty uneven. To combat this she used tongue and groove panelling which adds to the country cottage look.

Outside
Melanie knew the house had lots of potential when she went to see it, even though it was dated in style. With a lot of hard work she has turned it into her ideal family home.
