Ready for some trash talk? We’ve got three rubbish ideas for you that are actually quite amazing
What state is your bin in? So clean that no one dares to put rubbish in
it, or so smelly and overflowing that no one dares to put rubbish in
it?! Well, if it falls into the latter camp, maybe it’s time for a new
design – and we have three excellent options so beautiful, they’re
almost too good to fill with litter and leftovers.
I defy any neat freak not to fall in love with this impossibly organized kitchen bin from Joseph Joseph. From the top, there’s a replaceable odour filter to keep it smelling fresh, a lift-out caddy for food waste, a large compartment for general waste and a divided drawer for glass, paper or plastic.
The Totem Intelligent Waste System costs £175 for the 50ltr version and £199 for the 60ltr system, both of which are available in Graphite (shown) or Stone (an off-white). Yes, it’s pricey, but it’s so much more than a bin.
If you’re looking for a slightly more affordable kitchen bin, might we suggest these Alto trash cans from Habitat. We wouldn’t be surprised if Oscar the Grouch was living inside one of the traditionally styled designs, which come in five colours – red, cream, black, galvanised steel and a newly introduced white – and two sizes.
Choose your favourite colour, or buy a few and set up a smart, colour-coded, recycling system. Alto costs £35 for the 32ltr bin, and £50 for the 52ltr version.
Still not gorgeous enough for you? Then how about this statement bin designed by the queen of the retro print, Orla Kiely? It features our all-time favourite Stem design, in a choice of either black on white with a sunny-yellow lid, or cream on charcoal with an orange lid.
The tall 30ltr design, £132, would be perfect for a kitchen, or you could place one of the shorter 20ltr or 12ltr bins – £122 and £95 respectively – in a bathroom. If you deem them good enough for your garbage, you can buy them exclusively at John Lewis until April 2015 – they’ll then be available from more stores and at Brabantia.com.
