  • The estate of Genevra King, F Scott Fitzgerald's unrequited love and inspiration for The Great Gatsby's Daisy Buchanan, has gone on the market

Are you a huge Great Gatsby fan? Fancy bagging yourself the home of F Scott Fitzgerald’s former love, Genevra King?

Well now you can, because this huge mansion near Chicago has just been put on the market for an eyewatering £10.3 million.

The plush pad features seven bedrooms, a huge garden with neighbouring
land, hardwood flooring and a sprawling staircase that Gatsby himself would be proud of.

Sitting on eight acres of land, the mansion is being sold with neighbouring farmland – making the entire estate a huge 45 acres.

The impressive property is located in Lake Forest,
Illinois, just north of Chicago – and, with its opulent interior and large entertaining spaces, is said to have given
Fitzergald his first taste of the good life.

It is believed that the character of Daisy Buchanan in Fitzgerald’s famous novel was based on Genevra, a rich debutante from Illinois, whose father built the striking family home.

King was born in Chicago in 1898 and met Fitzgerald when she was at boarding school, and he was a 19-year-old college student at Princeton.

The two had a fling in 1917, but shortly after King became engaged to a wealthy Chicago man named William Mitchell.

King would eventually go on to divorce Mitchell, remarry and settle into the ornate Lake Forest abode that her father built – and which is now available to buy.

Here at Housetohome, we love a bit of Art Deco glamour so we were super excited to hear about the impressive mansion with a link to Daisy Buchanan.

So what do you reckon, worth a punt? Yeah right, we’d better start saving…
