5 ways to display collections in your home

Take inspiration from this home that houses everything from art to objets and flea market finds

1 More is better in the living room

‘Sometimes you think you have bought enough and you can’t put more in,’ says the owner. ‘But then you add another piece and it makes the room look bigger not smaller’.
He started with one glass table (in front of the sofa) then added nest tables that fit underneath. He also regularly adds to the art and changes it around. ‘I like mixing well known artists with some unknowns to keep it exciting,’ he says.

2 Mix it up in the study

A well curated collection can be a mix of many things. Here figurines from Africa sit alongside resin skulls and a Sixties iconic lamp. A decorative candelabra joins the fray under a selection of work by established and unknown artists.

3 Reinvent display space

The owner used an old bookcase, painted black, to display his collection of vintage French china.‘I like the contrast of the white against black – much more interesting than sets of books on the shelves!’ He also reinvented the white armchair.
‘It was a flea-market find and was ugly and a little bit grandmother-like, so covered it in white linen for a fresh look,’ he says.

4 Invest in multiples

In the dining room the owner has used a set of drawings to make a strong statement.
‘Just one or two would be boring and wouldn’t attract the eye in the same way,’ he says. Stacks of books carry on the theme of multiples, as does the set of design classic chairs by Harry Bertoia for Knoll.

5 Don’t forget the bathroom

It’s a space you use a lot, so why not use a bathroom wall to display your art?’ asks the owner. Although the pictures are different shapes and sizes he has kept them looking uniform by using similar black frames.
