Want a pigeon's-eye perspective on London? The capital's tallest tourist attraction, The View from The Shard, promises breathtaking views of iconic sights, from Tower Bridge to Wembley Stadium. Prepare to be amazed...
We can see some pretty impressive London landmarks from our window here at Housetohome HQ – the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral and the, um, Southwark Holiday Inn. But The Shard is undoubtedly the most striking, thanks to its sheer awe-inspiring size.
At a whopping 1,016ft
high (that’s nearly 10 times taller than the Statue of Liberty, fact
fans), The Shard is Western Europe’s tallest building.
And if, like us, you’re dying to see what London looks like from that height, now’s your chance.
The building’s visitor experience, The View from the Shard, opens next month and while adult tickets are an eye-watering £24.95 each, the views are priceless.
It seems we’re not the only ones who think so – opening day (1 February) is already sold out.
The experience starts at ground level, with a gallery of famous Londoners in bizarre scenarios – Kate Moss marrying King Henry VIII, and Wills and Kate dressed as a Pearly King and Queen. From there, you’ll will be whisked up to the 68th floor, the first of the three viewing floors, which have floor-to-ceiling windows for uninterrupted views.
For the best view, head to the 72nd floor, the highest public viewing gallery at 800ft where you can see for 40 miles and take in everything from Big Ben to the Olympic Stadium.
Andy Nyberg, The View from The Shard CEO explains, ‘The View from The Shard is the only place you can see the whole of London all at once. Visitors can find the entire city laid out before them, to be explored, admired and inspired by.’ We’re dizzy just thinking about it!
