Open House: Step inside a detached new-build in Wales

Love real homes? Take a look inside this stunning new-build home in Wales, previously featured in 25 Beautiful Homes.

This detached home in Powys, Wales, was built in 2009. The owners used an abundance of natural materials to help it complement its rural surroundings.
The focal point of the sitting room is its enormous fireplace. Constructed from locally sourced stone, it contrasts beautifully with the clean white furnishings.
The spacious sitting area is the perfect space for social gatherings. With its wooden beams, big sofas and rich leather furnishings, the overall effect is one of homeliness.

In the kitchen, with its plain white cabinetry, distinctive chairs and an old oak table were added to create an element of character.
On the landing at the top of the house, the odd curved beam softens the effect, while handmade wrought-iron handrails add a touch of elegance. A charming pendant lamp also ties in with the metallic theme.

The upstairs office benefits from lots of natural light, and characterful furniture including a generous-sized old desk, and an antique church pew.
A suitably romantic feel has been achieved in this master bedroom. Voile curtains and clean white bedlinen also complement the prettiness of the ornate bedstead – all looking out onto an idyllic country scene.

A modern take on the roll-top bath and sleek chrome radiators give the spacious master en suite an up-to-date look, while wood flooring ensures warmth underfoot.
