About me

Hi there, I'm Holly Walsh, Features Editor of Ideal Home Magazine. I've been working on the team since May 2015 where I joined as Style & Decorating Assistant, making sure our big decorating shoots ran smoothly and compiling our inspiring shopping pages. I became Features Editor of both Ideal Home and our sister mag Style at Home, in August 2017 where I continue to work on all things shopping, design and style.

I’ve worked in the world of interiors for nearly 10 years, starting out on the lifestyle team at The Sunday Express Magazine, before making the leap to a monthly mag where I’ve been ever since. I studied Interior Design at University, and prior to that Textile Design at Art College so my passion for homes and interiors also comes with a background of studies too.

My specialist subjects

Apart from ‘Ikea-furniture-builder-extraordinaire’, my area’s of expertise are hunting out the best shopping buys to refresh your home, as well as providing plenty of ideas on how to update your space too. Each month I compile 40 Easy Style Updates ranging from must-have buys, to mini DIY projects, storage solutions, and everything in between.

My Ideal Home

Three years ago my husband and I bought our own place, a two-bed Victorian semi-detached house in Surrey, which we’ve been doing up ever since. Last year our project was the bathroom (which you can see here) and next is our bedroom, which I can’t wait to start planning.

My husband has been pretty good at allowing my love of pink to creep into our home (we have a peony pink velvet sofa and a neon love heart light in our living room!) but I’m thinking I’ll stick to quite a classic and calming scheme this time with a few brass touches to add a bit of glamour.

I’d say my style is quite hard to pin down- it’s quite contemporary, a bit quirky and I’m definitely not afraid of colour, but I’m also quite sympathetic to the age of our house, so I guess that’s why I love writing about all kinds of interior styles on here!
